The Minister of State in the President’s Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance, Ridhiwani Kikwete, has urged graduates of the UONGOZI Institute to uphold integrity, innovation, and bold leadership in driving sustainable national development.
Speaking on May 15, 2026, during the 9th graduation ceremony held at Mlimani City, Kikwete emphasized that leadership is not merely a title, but a responsibility to bring positive change to society.
He noted that the graduates represent a new generation of leaders across Africa, equipped with enhanced skills in personal, people, and organizational leadership.
“Good leadership requires integrity. In today’s world, a leader is measured by their ability to uphold justice, transparency, and proper management of public resources,” he said.
Kikwete further encouraged the graduates to apply the knowledge they have gained to develop innovative solutions to social and economic challenges, stressing that they should not be satisfied with certificates alone but continue learning and exploring new opportunities.
In his remarks, he also commended the UONGOZI Institute for marking 15 years since its establishment in 2010, highlighting its significant contribution to developing capable and competent leaders across the African continent.
He expressed gratitude to development partners, including the Government of Finland, the European Union, and various international institutions, for their continued support in strengthening leadership capacity.
Kikwete also underscored the importance of strong leadership in achieving Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050, noting that even the best plans cannot succeed without effective leadership.
“We envision a Tanzania with a strong, inclusive, and competitive economy. However, this vision cannot be realized without leaders who are ethical, accountable, and committed to serving the people,” he emphasized.
He concluded by calling on the graduates to become agents of change in their respective fields and communities, before officially declaring the graduation ceremony open.
The event was attended by several leaders, including Yahaya Nawanda, Member of Parliament for Newala; Juma Mkomi, Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office – Public Service Management and Good Governance; Neema Jamu, representing the State House; Dkt. Elsie Sia Kanza, Tanzania’s Ambassador to the United States; Ombeni Sefue, Chairperson of the UONGOZI Institute Board; and Kadari Singo, Chief Executive Officer of the Institute.
Graduates were awarded qualifications in various leadership programs, including the Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership, Certificate in Leadership, Women’s Leadership Programme, and the Emerging Leaders Programme.
